An author is defined both as "the person who originates or gives existence to anything" and that authorship determines responsibility for what is created. The second entry goes on to clarify that, when using the term author, the "anything" which is created is most usually associated with written work.

How does the author describe Muslims and the Islamic faith in his Travels? How do his descriptions reflect ?
Q. In Travels of Marco Polo, how does the author describe Muslims and the Islamic faith in his Travels? How do his descriptions reflect his European Christian perspective? What biases does his account reveal?

A. I haven't read it before but i know that every single person who has travelled through Muslim-majority countries say that Muslim hospitality is unmatched anywhere in the world.

What percentage of a purchased book does the author recieve?
Q. When you buy a book at a bookstore, what percent of the money goes to the author? (Considering the author is alive)
Asked by Helmaroc - Fri Mar 14 19:55:51 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That depends on his/her contract, but in general, an author receives 6-10% for a paperback and 10-15% for a hardcover. This would be from an actual bookstore sold at retail price. When you buy them from discount stores such as Walmart or Target, it's much less. When you can get them directly from the publisher, it's more, but that's not likely unless you're talking small press or indie authors. Also, if an author receives an advance, which happens less all the time, she'll only start receiving royalties after the sales go over what she already got as an advance. So that advance may be the only money she ever sees from the book sale.

What is the most amount of fictional books written in the space of 12 months by a single author?
Q. I'm not looking for how many books by the same author were published, but how many books that author had written at the same time in a year. For example, author Betty Swollocks (made-up) has written twelve books over the last year, but she has them published over the space of seven years. I'm not sure you'll understand this but thank you.

A. Hmm, I don't know how to go about looking that up. I do, however, know that one of the most prolific authors (if not THE most prolific author) is Joyce Carol Oates. She's published over fifty novels since 1963 as well as short story collections, poetry, and nonfiction. And she's still going; she has three novels on the way for 2009/early 2010.
