How should I cite a quotation from a primary source that I must translate first?
Q. I am using the Oxford style of referencing and I need to find out how to reference a quotation that I first must translate. Should I also include both the original language version and then the translation? If it helps, I am looking to translate a bit of legislation. Thanks

A. If you want the absolute right answer, there are two ways to go. First, check with the instructor. Show him/her that the style manual doesn't exactly explain what to do, and ask for advice. Instructors usually love that, and you know that whatever you do will be accepted. The second choice is to check with a librarian. They deal with this kind of thing all the time and can show you a reference manual which tells you what to do. If the instructor is not satisfied, you will always be able to say how you decided and why.
